Gairloch is a village and community spread around the shores of the sea loch, Loch Gairloch, in Wester Ross in the west of Scotland, around 90 minutes’ drive from Inverness (70 miles approx.) and a just over 2 hours by bus. The area is very popular for holidays as it is situated close to a golf course, beautiful sandy beaches and wonderful scenery. The main sandy beach is next to the Gairloch golf course. A car park is nearby and there is a short walk down to the beach.
The Gairloch golf club is open to the public and also has a nice cafe where they sell ice creames as well as coffee and snacks.
Around Gairloch there are many places to visit including the Inverewe Gardens near Poolewe, Loch Maree and the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve near Kinlochewe, and to the south, Torridon and the outstanding mountain scenery in this area as well as the pretty village of Lochcarron. A trip to Ullapool is within a day trip from Gairloch and you will pass several highland villages and crofting communities along the way including Poolewe, Aultbea, Laide, Camusnagaul, Dundonnell. Gairloch is one of the main villages on the North Coast 500 route.
